What I'm reading. (alternative title: What on earth I'm reading)
I picked up two books in the city this weekend. For those of you who don't live near me (for shame) 'the city' is none other than New York. Come on folks, it's the city that never sleeps.
Anyway, I bought C.S. Lewis' Miracles and Roald Dahl's Boy Tales of Childhood. I've had to start a flowchart to make sense of Lewis' second two chapters (2-3). However, I've already got a sermon working it's way through my head on miracles based upon his all-too-brief first chapter. He begins the text, in part, by discussing the difference between people who believe in miracles versus those who don't. "Those who assume that miracles cannot happen are merely wasting their time by looking into texts: we know in advance what results they will find for they have begun by begging the question." Is it equally a waste of time for them look into Church?
Dahl's book seemed too odd not to purchase. It is a short autobiographical text (not quite an autobiography though - we'll see soon enough). I know what you're thinking... I know that name. What did that guy write? I'll save you the google. He wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach (reader insert joke here about Mollo and a Giant Peach), and several other dark children's stories.
I'm also reading Robert Graysmith's Zodiac. It's a little too fact focused (it's supposed to be) for my taste. I may just give up on this one. Let's hope that it doesn't make its way into the sermon!
